lovely place

I love the opening Flash sequence on the Nordstrom Designer. Very enchanting. Makes you want to spend lots of money.

review: Encore Resale Fashions

I visited for the first time on a whim. Now I can't help going back again and again. This family-owned and run business has been around for more than twenty years, and they have perfected customer service, which explains their current domination of the consignment market in Canton. For high-quality, reasonably priced items, this is the place to go.
The building feels like a rabbit warren; every time you feel like it must be over, another set of stairs or hallway leads you to another department, which is what happens when you transform an old house into a retail establishment. Everything is neatly arranged by size and color, and everything is in good shape, although I did see some pilling on some sweaters and some wear on purses. Minor complaints include the layout of the checkout line (there really isn't one), and the lighting in the back hall where the dark colored purses are located.
I've done particularly well on accesories at this shop. Check out the jewelry near the front, the purse section, and the shoes. Also, be aware that the higher-end purses are hung on the wall in the front area. Recent finds include an off-white, visibly worn Coach business clutch for $75, a vintage fur wrap for $30, a pair of black patent Ferrago flats in perfect condition for $20, and a brown patent Kate Spade bag for $20.

Thai Peanut Dip

Seriously, some of the best stuff ever. I can't stop eating baby carrots laden with this. It's a simple, different dip that's great with raw veggies, bread sticks, potato chips, or crackers. Perfect for when you want to break out of the "soup mix and sour cream" mold.

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3 tablespoons finely chopped shallots (I used minced onions)
1 tablespoon shredded fresh ginger
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon madras-style curry powder
1/8 teaspoon crushed hot red pepper
1/2 cup peanut butter (not natural)
1 cup chicken broth, canned or homemade
3 tablespoons coconut milk or heavy cream
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice (I used lemon)
1 tablespoon Asian fish sauce or soy sauce
1 teaspoon light brown sugar
chopped fresh cilantro, including stems, for garnish

1. Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the shallors, ginger, and garlic and cook, stirring often, until the shallots are golden, about three minuntes. Add the currey powder and red pepper and stir until fragrant, about 15 seconds.
2. Whisk in the remaining ingedients, except cilantro. Bring to a simmer adn simer over low heat to blend the flavors, about three minutes. Transfer to a bowl and let cool, the cover and refrigerate until chilled.
3. Transfer to a serving bowl and sprinkle with the chopped cilantro.

Steve Madden's Lalo, size 9.5, white
White is the color to wear this spring, and these would be perfection. Ok, so the $130 tag means I won't be getting them any time soon, but a girl can dream. And while she's at it, she can dream about wearing them with these pants, this shirt, and these sunglasses.
But she'll probably end up wearing these pants, this shirt, and these sunglasses. Oh, and either these or these shoes. Neither of them have the classic lines of the Maddens, but they're quite cute nonetheless.

a fun challenge

Make an outfit to match the shoes. No prizes, but those are very interesting shoes--a good challenge for the most obsessed among us!

*Yes, I'm aware that the fall shows were just last week. I'm getting to those. Right now, I'm planning my spring/summer wardrobe, and I have to know what trends I'm following. Plus someone asked me today what's in this summer and all I could think was "feminine."
