wednesday wonderfulness

Bet you thought I forgot! Well, nearly. It's been a bit of a week so far, but that doesn't mean the interwebs stop producing loveliness for your enjoyment.
In other news, I'm practicing making an ice cream cake for the husband's birthday, and if it turns out well I'll share the recipe. Also: I have pictures to post of M's baby present as soon as I know it arrived.

I have to say that I found the article "how not to get screwed by your florist" to be somewhat offensive. No florist who really loves what she does would go out of her way to say hateful things about other florists, no matter what she thinks of their business practices. Yes, some florist do charge astronomical amounts-- (ie the 5% mark-up), but those are top-notch florists and the people who go to them not only have the money to spend (and rarely have any type of budget), but part of why they GO to that particular florist is so they can SAY, "xxx did my flowers." There is a "celebrity" aspect, just as there is for photography, dress designers, etc. I've never met a real wedding florist (and I've worked with MANY) who would do even half of the things mentioned in this article. Superior work has a superior price tag, absolutely. Inferior work has an inferior price tag. If you go into a shop and they can't provide you with photos of their work- in fact, if they even use some sort of wire service (Teleflora, etc.), than they are a FLOWER SHOP. Not a wedding floral designer. There is a huge difference. I feel like the author of this article was lumping horrific little flower shops and incredibly gifted designers in the same category and then saying that everyone is just out to squeeze every last cent out of an unsuspecting bride. This is rarely true and I'm saddened that someone who calls herself a designer would make such an accusation.
